Last week, I went to a very special event with five amazing girls – from left to right: Cécile, Sofia, Farina, me, Sophia and Verena. We were invited by → C&A to talk about strong women and how fashion influences personalities, and for a makeover which each of us did for another girl. I was styled by Sophia and had the pleasure to dress up Verena. It was an exciting day and we had lots of fun together, as you can see in the pictures! ;)

There’s also a video up on the → C&A Blog, don’t forget to watch it! ;)

I’ve already talked about the effect of fashion and everything that’s possible with it in my → last post, but I want to say again how fascinating it is that fashion is able to either influence and enhance someone’s personality or change it (in a positive way). However you feel on a day, you can make your style look like it or give it a completely different touch. You can accentuate special features of yourself or – if you feel like it – hide something you’re not 100% happy with. Fashion is for everyone and that’s why we shouldn’t be limited in our possibilities. Even though our bodies are different, we should all be able to wear whatever we want, whether we’re skinny or fat, tall or short, blonde or brunette,… Let’s all express ourselves through fashion!

Dressing up someone else can be super easy if you know this person. It’s funny how you instantly know what you want her to wear when you do this kind of makeover. And even if you don’t, it’s cool to see how you can make the person look and maybe even influence her own style. It was great to see our makeovers at the end of the day – everybody chose the right look for the other girl – and I think that we all look absolutely amazing!

After my last → “all black” look, I’ve got something very colorful for you today! This is an outfit which definitely gets the hashtag #visiblebellyoutline and I’m proud to share it just like this. Because nobody should feel ashamed of his or her body. I mean: what’s so wrong about seeing a person’s belly? It’s probaby a strange comparison but I keep asking myself why people go crazy about big preggo bellies but are totally disgusted and get offensive when it’s just fat. Why should I feel less valuable just because you can see that I’m fat? Why should I hide it for others if I’m okay with it, if I like my body and want to show it? So today’s look is yet another (as you’ve already seen me pretty often wearing such tight dresses) scream for freedom. The freedom to wear whatever I want and show whatever I want. The freedom to be able to go outside showing my belly, my bum, my thighs and yes, accept that people are going to stare (because they always do), but don’t let them make me feel ugly.

Fashion should be our very own freedom to invent ourselves new every time we choose our outfits – if we want to. Fashion should always be a fun thing, not a serious struggle to hide ourselves and make ourselves invisible so nobody can insult us and actually hurt us with words and laughter. Fashion is such a great thing because it gives us the power to feel better on a moody day (try some colors instead of black and gray!), it gives us the power to feel confident and professional, the power to feel sexy and desirable, the power to feel like nobody can stop us. And yet fashion is something that can put us down so easily because of what others may say about what we’re wearing, how we look. Yes – fashion is not here to impress and please everyone. Fashion means something else for everyone and we all have a different, even though sometimes very similar, taste. I’m being a bit deep today, but I want to say that fashion can be magical in the right moment, yet we choose to define people based on their looks, which is fine (because it’s something we want others to do when we choose a happy, powerful or sexy outfit, for example) – until this becomes something we use against each other. It’s cool to see someone and get the feeling to know how this person feels today, how this person’s character may be – but we should never forget to look behind it all, to give everyone a second look even if the first look didn’t please us. Fashion is just a disguise we can use for our emotions (yes, I do wear different clothes when I’m sad or happy), but we should never forget that behind all those clothes there’s an actual person who’s got real feelings and a story to tell, so let’s always keep listening. ♥

Sure, this outfit isn’t very summery (especially not on these hot days), but it’s definitely worth posting already – so you can still get it with 25% off and get ready for fall. ;) But of course, this is a super classic look, “all black” just how I love it. I even went so far and created a matching make-up by doing smoky eyes and wearing an almost black lipstick. The → “Tal” dress is truly a special piece with a very different cut. I first thought about wearing it with a belt, simply because I like to show my waist, but honestly: this ruins the dress. So if you’re thinking about buying it (and you should!), don’t even think about adding a belt because this dress needs to be worn just like this! That’s what the dress is about and how it looks best. :)

Since my head always looks a bit too small when I wear loose clothes, I went for a hat. This is something I actually have to do so I don’t look distorted. ;) But as I love hats, this isn’t a problem for me – and I think that it rounds off the look perfectly. Also, I went for boots because I felt that delicate sandals or elegant heels just wouldn’t work with the dress. It needs something more rough and bold and so I chose these classic black boots. Do I have to say more? Just in case (and cause I forgot it last time): I’m wearing a size 2 here and the → “Kiss” dress was a size 3 (probably, a 2 would have been better for my small bust, but the 3 was the best choice for my large hips). The fabrics aren’t stretchy, so if you want them to fit, use the measurement chart on the page and check which size will be best for you. ;) And now we’ll let the photos speak for themselves – and don’t forget to watch the video! ;)

• Diabetes | Two Weeks of Freedom •

If there’s something I really don’t like about → being a diabetic, it’s the constant measuring of my blood sugar level. It’s simply annoying. Diabetes isn’t a tough disease – of course, it sucks like every other disease, especially because it’s chronic and you have to deal with it for the rest of your life, but it’s an illness that is completely manageable. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t stop you from doing anything and it won’t kill you – if you take care of yourself. The injections are no problem, wearing the pump is rather cool than something bad (because it’s an absolute improvement!), and as I like to say: I probably know even more about food and carbs than someone who actually wants to go on a diet or so. But there’s one thing that really sucks: measuring your blood sugar. Pricking your finger, pressing it a bit to get enough blood for the device and waiting. And then writing it down. Sounds easy and yes, it is, but after a few years this becomes something you’ll really hate from the bottom of your heart. You’ll start to forget it on purpose (well, sometimes you actually don’t do it on purpose) and enter the zone of frustration. I had this when I was 18, I just didn’t want to do it anymore. Diabetes doesn’t hurt but it’s absolutely annoying and you just can’t get rid of it, it’s always there and you can’t ever say “hey, today I’ll just spend the day like a healthy person!” because you’ll totally regret it. And even if you do this, there’s always these thoughts like “I should be measuring my BS”. You can’t switch it off.

But – and that’s the positive part of today’s blog post: there’s something new on the market. Well, it’s not totally new but still something great and I think I’ve waited way too long to get it. The FreeStyle Libre. It’s not a CGMS (Continuous Glucose Monitoring System), but a FGMS – a “Flash Glucose Monitoring System”. Means: you put a sensor on your arm and whenever you reach for it with the measuring system, it shows you your current BS – plus (and that’s an enormous plus!) you can see how your BS has been acting around it. Seeing that chart helps a lot when you want to work on your treatment – cause that’s also something you learn and have to do a lot. Your doctor isn’t always around, sometimes you just need to change some small things by yourself and if you see where the problems are, you can do it and keep an eye on it.
