I can’t even say how much I enjoyed going out for dinner in Rio. :) Those two luxurious dinners we had (find my post about our dinner at the “Mee” → here), were definitely two highlights of our vacation. Not just because it’s luxury, the food was simply delicious! And this is coming from someone who’s normally not very interested in Italian food (gosh, many people will think I’m crazy, right?). I don’t really care about pizza and pasta, but this time I wanted to give it a try, especially because the FASANO is known for its great food, including sea food. But if there’s something that I’m even less interested in, then it’s sea food (well, except for oysters, haha!) and cooked fish (but please give me anything raw – one day I’ll become a sushi myself!). So I chose a few classics from the Italian cuisine and I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, this was one of the best dinners I ever had and I can definitely recommend booking a table and enjoying dinner at the “FASANO al mare” – maybe even the same dishes I had. ;)

So, I made a reservation for our table the same afternoon, it was pretty spontaneous and luckily no problem – when we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty but got pretty packed during our dinner. Still, it didn’t feel that loaded since we got a nice big table for us and it somehow felt private, even though we were definitely not alone. Reserving a table, I’d say, is still a must to make sure to get one. :)

The waiters were extremely courteous and quick, we never had to wait long between our meals and the service was great – also when it was time to choose, when we requested some help with what’s recommendable. At some times, I kind of felt that the waiters were a little too professional, I was missing a bit of a smile, but that’s actually nothing to complain about. At least, one of them was pretty funny and had some stories to share about the food.

About the food: the burrata was the best thing I’ve ever had in my entire life. It was creamy and incredibly delicious, especially in combination with the tomato cream – I actually have no idea what it really was, but it was sweet, a bit like tomato jam. I wish the FASANO team would have answered my mail asking for some more information about the food I had, but I guess that’s the point where I have to criticize the service – not answering mails is definitely a lack of courtesy and respect towards the guests, even though everyone was very kind and courteous on location and on the phone.

I also had the freshly home-made tortelli and they were great. Fresh pasta is always a good choice and they definitely did a good job with it. The filling was delicious, the sauce intensively cheesy, so if you love cheese, you should go for it!

Of course, my favorite right after the burrata was the dessert. We had the tiramisu, which actually has a story behind it – the waiter told us that it’s made using a recipe of the grandmother of the actual first chef of the FASANO in Rio, who’s now in São Paulo, which is a bit different and is where its look comes from. It’s crunchier and made with Marsala and oh-so-tasty! It’s no wonder that this tiramisu is considered the best in Brazil – so you better not miss it! I wish we hadn’t shared this little piece of deliciousness, but I was actually pretty full after our dinner! ;)

So all in all, this was amazing. We had a great, elegant and luxurious dinner, with extremely delicious food and a service that was absolutely flawless. Guess we’ll come back whenever we’re in Brazil again!
