I know, it’s almost February but there’s still enough time to give you some ideas about how to make this year a #bodypositive year.

I’ve never been someone to make New Year’s resolutions, but since 2015 was a year full of great moments in terms of plus size, I wanted to share some ideas with you. Things to try and live by this year. And I’ll hopefully be good help with that with my blog.

• #1 – Stop being afraid of colors! •

We all know that black is the most flattering (non-)color ever. It’s great for any occasion, makes you look slimmer and can be up- or downdressed, only depending on what you wear with it. Black clothes are everyone’s best friends and every fashionista’s first choice (mine too). But: black can’t do magic, even though many will tell you so. A black sack won’t hide you. Throwing it over your body will not make it disappear. That’s something that you must understand. You shouldn’t wear black because you want to be invisible. That’s why your first resolution for 2016 should be: wear colors! I’m pretty sure that everyone of you has a favorite color – why not try a new sweater? Mine would probably be green. :)
You can also start with small steps: try a new accessory, for example a bag or a scarf. And make it bigger every time! Maybe one day (this year!) you’ll walk outside in a colorful dress – I really hope so. Because colors make every day brighter and happier. And you can save black for those serious days. ;)

• #2 – Accept all body types! •

No matter if skinny or fat – there is no right and wrong. And if you’re fat and want to speak up for other fat people, please don’t do so by speaking badly of skinny people. There are so many pseudo-empowering quotes that will make others feel incredibly bad, so please don’t use them. There is no “real” woman (every woman is real!). Skinny people are not “bones”. And → “perfect” doesn’t exist. We’re all perfect in our own ways. Accept that! And don’t judge others by their bodies!

• #3 – Try something new! •

Okay, so you’ve already started to wear colors (hopefully). Why not add something new (yes, even though wearing colors is something new too!)? Last year we had that → crop top trend. Because being fat doesn’t mean that you can’t wear a crop top. Or maybe you’d like to join the → #BeachBodyNotSorry movement? Just do it! There’s nothing better than wearing a great bikini at the beach! People say that horizontal stripes make you look fat – time to show them that’s wrong! You want to wear a dress in summer? Why have you waited so many years? Wear a dress and flaunt it! And if you’re afraid of chub rub, you can find a few ideas against it → here.

• #4 – Ignore the hate! •

I know, that’s not the easiest resolution. It’s hard to stop listening to others if you’re one of the negative voices yourself – because at some point you started to believe them. First, you need to get those “I may nots” and “I can’ts” out of your head. Because YOU MAY and YOU CAN! You may go outside and show the world how great and beautiful you feel. You can wear that short dress that’s been waiting for you in your closet for waaaay too long! You may be the one that’s fat AND fabulous! And you can definitely feel good. Without listening to all that hate. Be it #fatshaming or #skinnybashing, be it others telling you that you’re not healthy (who are they – your doctor?) or the guy rejecting you because you’re not a photoshopped underwear model (uh, I guess we don’t need that stupid boy anyways!). Be it that unfriendly woman telling you that “you won’t find nothing in our store” (oh well, there are many others that have even nicer dresses!) or those girls on the street talking behind your back about your “obvious eating disorder” (while you had a big burger menu just a few minutes ago – and did NOT throw up after you had that extra milk shake for dessert!). Yes, there’s so much hate and prejudice in this world and these voices are way too loud – but you don’t need this kind of negativity in your life. Why would you listen to them if this is YOUR life? It’s YOUR body! YOUR decisions! Don’t let them rule your mind, your actions and your world. It’s about YOU – not them.

• #5 – LOVE YOURSELF! •

With all your “flaws” (let’s repeat together: there is no “perfect”!). Because you, my dear reader of this text, are unique. You’re a product of love and an incredible miracle – YOU. ARE. AWESOME. Don’t you dare contradict me!
